De Parade

De Parade, the Brussels company centred on the director and author Rudi Meulemans, focuses primarily on the creation of new plays that show great social commitment. De Parade occupies a special place on the Flemish theatre scene. The group owes this position to the honest way in which it has engaged with the medium of theatre over the last 20 years. De Parade is currently one of the few theatre groups in Flanders which consistently opts for spoken word theatre. Rudi Meulemans is steadily building up an oeuvre of plays. He is thereby making a consistent and original contribution to Flemish playwriting. He is one of the most important contemporary Flemish playwrights from the point of view of both quality and quantity.

The permanent core of actors includes Tom de Hoog, Ina Geerts, Johan Heestermans, Caroline Rottier, Andreas Van de Maele and Hilde Wils. The small operating subsidy which the group will be receiving from 2010 will enable it to open up its now vigorous artistic activities, not just to other artists, but also to other media, without losing sight of the focus on the play and the unique character of the group.

The great thematic axes around which De Parade works include documentary and biography, the issue of the loner, the discourse on art, the relationship with the Western canon and social commitment.
